Barbecoa, St Pauls

Admittedly, Jamie Oliver is one of my favourite celebrity chefs. His persona and strive to help others appeals to me, especially since he started the revolution for healthier school meals. I'd not visited a Jamie's restaurant previously and was looking forward to his Barbecue restaurant, which is shadowed by St Paul's Cathedral, one of my favourite landmarks in London.

As you walk up to the One New Change mall you can clearly see the Jamie Oliver name in bright yellow with the restaurant name above it. Walking in, there are carcasses hanging behind a glass pane, quite cool if you like the look of hanging meat but probably a vegetarian's nightmare. The stairs lead you to an intimate restaurant and tables with magnificent views of St Paul's.
The air is thick with BBQ in this cosy yet fancy restaurant. The waiter looking after my table wore a constant smile and was very friendly from the outset. I ordered the Chicken Wings and the Sirloin Steak with Peppercorn Sauce for my main. The Chicken Wings were served on a hot plate covered with a delectable spiced Buffalo Sauce and a drop of blue cheese, giving it a delectably strong taste. This was a fantastic start to the meal. The Sirloin came out with two halves of a tomato, cooked and topped with olive oil and pesto. The tomatoes were tasty but the main event was the Steak. It was tender and clearly well marinated, there was little need for the peppercorn sauce. The fat from the Sirloin added flavours to make each bite a truly satisfying one.

I enjoyed Barbecoa, not only for the great BBQ food but for the intimate atmosphere and views of St Paul's. I don't think it's the best BBQ food in London, especially at the inflated prices, but the restaurant offers a well rounded experience. A place that has a nice feel, a great view, brilliant service and good food. What more can you ask for?
